Three places to stay · Broke, Hunter Valley

Pick by mood,
not by feature.

The Cottage is a proper country house. The Bell Tent is canvas with a real bed. The Caravan is the playful one. All three sit on the same 74 hectares in Broke, on the tranquil side of the Hunter Valley, with Yellow Rock on the horizon and the same family running all of it.

Book direct. Two-night minimum.

The Bell Tent.

A proper bed and proper linen, under proper canvas, in a paddock that doesn't see anyone you didn't bring with you.

Plush rugs, a heater for the cold nights, an air-conditioner for the hot ones, a record player for either. A short path to your own amenities pod with hot shower and kitchen. The Brokenback Range sits on the western horizon. Outside the door, the dark.

The Caravan.

Somewhere between a summer holiday in 1975 and a very good night's sleep.

Before you book

The things people ask us.

Anything else, email info@brokeestate.com.au and one of the family will answer.

Is there a minimum stay?

Two nights, across all three stays. Long weekends and holiday periods can carry a three-night minimum — the booking calendar will tell you when.

What are check-in and check-out times?

Check in from 3pm, check out by 11am. Let us know if you need a little flexibility and we will do what we can.

Do I need a four-wheel drive?

No. The road in is dirt but well maintained and suitable for any car, including low-clearance ones. Drive slowly — there are cattle and kangaroos about.

Is firewood provided?

Yes. We supply wood, kindling and fire starters for the indoor fire and the outdoor firepit. Firepits are seasonal and closed over the warmer months — we will confirm for your dates when you book.

What is in the kitchen?

Tea, coffee, salt, pepper and cooking oil are provided, along with cookware, crockery and cutlery. Bring the rest of your groceries — the village store has the basics and petrol, and Singleton or Cessnock have full supermarkets.

Is bed linen and towel supplied?

Yes. Beds are made up with proper linen and towels are provided in every stay.

What is the cancellation policy?

A full refund if you cancel five or more days before arrival, and a 50% refund up to one day before.

Can we bring the dog?

No pets, sorry — it is a working cattle farm with our own working dogs. Bella, Bindi and Banjo will happily stand in.

Are children welcome?

In the Cottage, yes — a portacot and high chair are available on request. The Bell Tent is adults only, though babies are welcome if you bring your own bedding. The Caravan is adults only, with no children or infants.

Is there phone reception and wi-fi?

Telstra reception is reliable; other carriers can be patchy. All three stays have wi-fi.

How do we get in?

Self check-in. We send directions ahead of time and the access code on the morning of your arrival, and we are usually on the farm if you need us.

When you book, you book with the family.

No platform, no call centre. Your booking, your questions, and the reply you get all come from one of the four of us. Email info@brokeestate.com.au or call (02) 4088 8883.
