Stay/ The Caravan
RETRO CARAVAN FOR TWO · BROKE, HUNTER VALLEY · 2.5 HRS FROM SYDNEY
The Caravan. Playful, nostalgic, very quiet.

The van is the bedroom. The pavilion is everything else.
The van is where you sleep: a double bed, electric blanket, air conditioning, and a dinette by the window for the first coffee. It's the charm. The pavilion does the rest.
The pavilion is a covered deck a few steps away, with blinds for the weather, a fan for summer and a heater for winter. Kitchen, two lounge chairs, a dining table, and your own bathroom with a hot shower and a composting toilet. Wi-Fi works out here, though the night sky is worth switching off for.

Your own corner of the farm, Yellow Rock on the horizon.
The van sits in its own corner of the farm, about 300 metres from the homestead where Bernadette and Max live. You're unlikely to see them unless you want to, but they're close by if you need anything. Yellow Rock is on the horizon to the south, the Brokenback Range to the west, and you're welcome to wander the paddocks. Cattle numbers vary through the year, and the border collies are usually about somewhere.
2–2.5 hours from Sydney, 1 hour 15 from Newcastle, 15 minutes from Pokolbin's cellar doors. The last stretch of road is dirt, and fine for any car.

The things people ask us.
Anything else, email info@brokeestate.com.au and one of the family will answer.
How far is the drive, and are the roads sealed?
2–2.5 hours from Sydney, 1 hour 15 from Newcastle, 15 minutes from Pokolbin's cellar doors (see what's nearby). The last stretch in is dirt and fine for any car, including low-clearance ones. Drive slowly; there are cattle and kangaroos about.
Is there a minimum stay?
Two nights. Long weekends and holiday periods can carry a three-night minimum; the booking calendar will tell you when.
Where is the bathroom?
Not in the van. It's in the pavilion a few steps away, yours alone for the stay, with a hot shower, a composting toilet, a hair dryer, and shampoo, conditioner and body soap.
Can we cook?
Yes. The pavilion kitchen has a portable induction cooktop, a fridge and freezer, a toaster, kettle and coffee maker, with coffee, tea, salt, pepper and oil provided. There's a barbecue with utensils outside.
Can we bring children?
No. The Caravan is adults only, with no children or infants. It's a working farm with electric fences and the occasional wombat hole. The Cottage is the one built for families.
Can we bring the dog?
No pets on any of the stays. It's a working cattle farm with our own working dogs. Bella, the border collie in the reviews, is ours, and she takes the greeting side of things seriously.
Is the firepit always available?
No. It's seasonal and closed over the warmer months, depending on local conditions. It can't be used on total fire ban days or in windy or hot weather, and it must be fully put out with water at the end of the night. We'll confirm for your dates when you book.
What's it like being outdoors?
The pavilion is covered with blinds but open to the air, so expect birdsong, wildlife and occasional farming activity on nearby properties. Insect repellent is provided and there are electric snake repellers installed, but take care in long grass. There are no laundry facilities.
What's check-in like?
Self check-in via lockbox from 3pm, check-out by 11am. We send directions ahead of time and the code on the morning of your arrival, and we're usually on the farm if you need us.
Is the Caravan accessible?
The site is on uneven ground with steps into the van, so the Caravan isn't wheelchair accessible. Call us on (02) 4088 8883 and we'll give you an honest picture of whether it will suit.
When you book, you book with the family.
No platform, no call centre. Your booking, your questions, and the reply all come from one of the four of us. Email info@brokeestate.com.au or call (02) 4088 8883.
